There is a song; and there is a Hit Song. Which one do you want to write? 😜⭐️🎹 Are you a Hit Song Maker? ⭐️
You may not actually want to write a Hit Song. That is OK. I was one of those songwriters. I wrote for my own pleasure. I wrote because I wanted to purge my soul, express myself, and splash my ethos on the page. I wrote for my albums, for my desires, for my own pursuit of ‘becoming’.
Writing a Hit Song seemed daunting to me. Actually, it made me feel as if I would be required to succumb to mainstream peer pressure and simply write to what I perceived as the lowest common denominator. I didn’t really didn’t understand it until more recently, when I realized that writing Hit Worthy Songs could actually be pleasurable, and bring me success. I’ve spent the best part of the last two decades exploring, writing and performing songs. It has been my number one quest, and joy. It wasn’t until 7 albums in, many worldwide tours, a multitude of songwriting awards and building the largest songwriters non-profit organization in the world, Songsalive!, that I realized there was MORE to just writing good songs, great songs, and heck, Hit Songs. It had to start with me, as a songwriter, and my relationship to writing, and my relationship with the music business.
Hi, I'm Gilli Moon. I am a songwriter. I’ve written and placed hundreds of songs, recorded and released albums, created big artist and songwriting communities, and I coach. I’ve met and supported many songwriters and artists (in the vicinity of several thousand, whom I know by name). I'm also an Entrepreneur. A creative disrupter, Artist, Songwriter, Author, Record Label owner, Mother and Life Passion Seeker. I've toured the world as a singer and musician with the likes of Eric Idle, Simple Minds and worked for will.i.am, plus built awesome communities, brands, businesses, digital products and websites catering to empowering and advancing creatives and entrepreneurs. I've published 3 books on Amazon for creative folk like you, and love coaching songwriters and artists. I’ve run many songwriting workshops, after learning from many of the greats. I live and breathe music and (for better or for worse) I understand the music business.
I don't tell you all this to boast of my talents. I share this with you so you can be inspired that you can have it all too, like I feel I've achieved my dreams. And to show you that it takes gumption, courage and a whole lot of hard work to get to a successful artist career. I’ve had my fair share of successes, and I’ve certainly had that same fair share of rejection. And this is what I have learned:
A Hit Song starts with the writing. You can’t fix a poor song structure in production, or mixing; and you certainly can’t make it fix a bad song with marketing, money or distribution. If it’s not a good song (a great, superb song) in the crafting of it, no amount of money or push will make it successful. It must start with the SONG itself, while remaining CONSCIOUS of what else will come into play.
